What Motherhood Has Taught Me

As I write this, I am sitting on the couch as my husband and son nap together on the other couch. Knox will be 4 weeks tomorrow. It feels like it’s been forever. But it also feels like I blinked and now he is 4 weeks old. My life has completely changed in every single way since Knox arrived on July 17th, 2017. It’s been the best and hardest four weeks of my life. I never knew I could feel so many emotions all at once. I never knew I could survive with such little sleep. I never knew it would be so hard and amazing all at the same time.

If you’re like me, the word “networking” makes you think of spending a mid-week evening out at a restaurant, awkwardly mingling around a room with watered-down cocktail in your left hand. Just thinking about it makes you anxious. Yeah, I hate that stuff. In fact, I avoid it at all costs.

If you’re a business owner, I’m sure you’ve heard or read this within the past year. I am guessing you’ve noticed that social media has changed and you aren’t able to depend on Instagram for all your marketing purposes. You’ve probably read blog posts about Mailchimp vs. Convertkit. Please Don’t Repost My Picture

I know that this could ruffle some feathers, but I feel this is something that needs to be talked about in the creative community. As an artist and product shop owner, I work VERY hard to create the images in my Instagram feed. I plan product shooting days. I buy props for my photoshoots. I pay my friends to model for me. I buy coffee to brew for the glass coffee mugs. I buy donuts (and try really hard to not eat them). I write out a plan for every single picture I create. I have a checklist. I edit the photos. I export them and upload them to my phone.

Beating the Instagram Algorithm

Let’s face it: Instagram is totally different these days. It makes sense. But still, it’s a bummer. Instagram is a business and they want to make money--can’t blame them--but it cramps our style, right? And second, we also need to learn to put our time and energy into other marketing platforms.

How I Manage #allthethings

Here's the thing: I don't.

Shocker.

This blog my post is my confession of what life truly looks like behind the scenes.

I want to do this because I know that I have watched people online and believed the lie that they are living a highly organized, perfectly planned, routined, and problem-free lifestyle. I also believe that their business is stronger, better, and more successful than mine.

Product Shoppin' Ain't Easy! | Guest Blog Post

Today's post is a guest blog post written by Lisa Goins of Surprise Gift Co.

I have this new favorite notepad in our Mother’s Day gift, it says Mommin’ Ain’t Easy! As a mom of 4 I can certainly (and wholeheartedly) verify that statement as truth. It’s easy to go through my days thinking I wish someone had told me it would be like this. As a second year online product-shop owner, I can also verify a similar statement- product shoppin’ ain’t easy… It’s hard and I wish someone had told me this. Not smirked and told me in an “it’s not that difficult, you’ll figure it out” kind of way. If only a wiser product shop owner had sat me down, looked me square in the eyes with their gameface on and said: “you might not survive this”
